Eight North

Cultural Threads: Modern Weavings of Tradition

2022

Eight Northern Pueblos Cultural Association
The Eight Northern Pueblos represent a community of eight indigenous villages in northern New Mexico, united by a rich heritage of cultural traditions and folklore. Among the most important symbols of their culture, the owl plays a key role: it is considered an emblem of wisdom and intuition, representing the connection between the community and the natural world. For the association, the owl in the logo becomes a symbol of guidance and guardianship of traditions, embodying the goal of passing down knowledge and values that nurture a sense of belonging and identity among the people.

The art of weaving and textiles is another cultural cornerstone of the Eight Northern Pueblos. Characterized by geometric patterns and linear forms, this tradition reflects an aesthetic that merges beauty and natural symmetry, expressing a perfect balance between functionality and symbolism. Each chosen motif and color carries deep meanings, depicting the community's connection to the land, sky, and seasons.

Concept of the Visual Brand
The visual brand developed for the association translates this cultural richness into a modern and minimalist graphic language. Clean lines and essential shapes evoke traditional textile patterns, reinterpreting them in an aesthetic that is versatile and suitable for both institutional branding and merchandising. The choice of primary colors—orange and purple—is intentional:

Orange represents the earth and the vibrant energy of the community, reflecting the hospitality and vitality that characterize the culture of the Eight Northern Pueblos.
Purple, on the other hand, symbolizes mystery and the depth of tradition, while also evoking the spiritual connection and inner wisdom, qualities embodied by the owl.
These colors were selected to create a harmonious contrast that attracts attention while maintaining a subtlety that makes the design accessible to a broad audience. With this modern and evocative visual, the brand communicates both the solemnity and contemporaneity of the culture of the Eight Northern Pueblos, celebrating the past while projecting into the present.
